Casablanca
1.
Casablanca was directed by Micheal Cutiz in 1942. AFI made the movie #3 on the list of Top 100 Films of All Times and the other two movies were Citizen Kane and The Godfather. At the Academy Awards it won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The themes of the movie were lost love, honor, self-sacrifice in war and romance within a chaotic world. The plot of the story is that Casablanca is basically the exit to Lisbon. But in order to leave a person must obtain exit visas they must have the exit visas approved and given to them by the local police captain who was Renault in the movie.
Two men who had the visas were murdered and the visas were given to Rick to hide. Victor Laszlo and Ilsa go to Casablanca and want visas in order to go to America but Ilsa and Rick had an affair in Paris when they thought that Laszlo was dead. Bogart (Rick) was AFI's #1 male actor and won an Oscar for African Queen in 1952, Cain Mutiny in 1954 and Casablance in 1942. Micheal Curtis won Best Director for Casablanca.

This article gave a brief description of the movie and described what type of style the movie was. The article descrbed the movie as having an "Invisible-style". The article stated that "Rather than dazzling the eye with eye-catching visuals and histrionic acting, it seduces the viewer by creating a seamless, lush universe that gradually envelops the audience". There were rumors that George Raft and Ronald Reagan were considered for the starring role before Humphrey Bogart. The article also stated that "If Citizen Kane (1941) represents the pinnacle of artistic derring-do and Gone With the Wind (1939) epitomizes the colorful bombast of the American epic, then Casablanca is surely the film that defines cinematic cool". Casablanca had famous movie quotes like "Here's looking at you, kid," and "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,".

When reading the article I started to understand why the movie had an "invisible-style". In the movie everything was smokey and no one was bright like in Citizen Kane or Gone With The Wind. Also, while I was reading the article I ran across some things that I had no idea about. For instance, I had no idea that there were rumors that George Raft and Ronald Reagan could have taken the starring role instead of Humphrey Bogart.

While watching the movie I noticed that in every scene no matter if it was day or night the scene was always foggy or smokey. Also I noticed how they used a background to make it look like they were really driving. I was impressed by Humphrey Bogart's character because it did not matter if his character was in a life or death situation he always stayed calme. Especially, in the scene when Ilsa pointed a gun at him and told him to get papers for the visas. This movie had alot of action but it was smooth at the same time.
